Currently, about 25% of SCI residents are 54 years old and older. The SCI Senior Services Program (SSP) design is dedicated to promoting a dignified, healthful quality of life for older adults by advocating and providing vital services, providing opportunities to develop meaningful fellowship, offering lifelong learning activities, recognizing the continued and varied accomplishments of older adults, and being an accessible and trusted community resource. SSP provides socialization as well as mental and physical stimulation by offering diverse activities in a supportive, fun, safe environment.
The SCI Senior Services Program will engage, empower and support its residents as we address their permanency and independent living needs. Some of these program services include: proper diet and nutrition; arts and crafts; recreation; transportation; educational opportunities; health screening and support; information; referral; and counseling.
The Ombudsperson staff includes NYS certified senior ombudspersons. The senior ombudsperson works on behalf of his or her resident to resolve complaints. The ombudsperson is qualified to hear concerns from residents, families, friends and residential facility personnel. The ombudsperson’s mission is to help protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of seniors. The ombudsperson is qualified to resolve complaints made by or for seniors, educate residents and management about seniors’ rights and good care practices, promote community involvement through volunteer opportunities, advocate for senior rights and quality care in residential facilities, and promote the development of citizen organizations, family councils and resident councils.
